Sense of smell

They've been working on the five senses in Haven's kindergarten, and this came home in Haven's folder yesterday.

Our family grows by three...

One of the best things about spring is new baby chickies! This is year four for our hens, so most likely their last year of significant laying. So we've started to cycle in a few more chickens to our flock: this year, three buff rocks.

This is so fun for all of us, and the girls, of course, are beside themselves with joy. They just love holding the baby chicks. The cat is miserable, as she knows there are some tasty morsels in our house, but she isn't let anywhere near them. I TAT I TAW A PUDDY TAT!!! This is compounded by the fact that Sadie is a big ole fat cat on a diet.

The big challenge is keeping them warm enough. Tonight I have a seedling heat mat under the cage.

When Audrey was holding hers for the first time it promptly fell asleep in her little hands. So cute!!

Big girl bed

Last night Papa brought home his latest craigslist score: Audrey's toddler bed. The entire family was extremely excited.

The first night Audrey had to be put back in bed only three times, and she was up at 6am, knocking on Papa's eyelids, looking for her rice crispies. Second night... so far so good.

Los tres mustachios

Here's Haven and her friends Cora and Lily at Leo's bowling alley birthday party. This was about the last time she was healthy, last Saturday. She's had a fever and vomiting for about three days now. Sigh.

Sick Day

Haven has a fever, and she threw up last night. Audrey got lonely without her sister at breakfast, and since it's been hard to get her to leave her sister's side, despite Haven's extreme desire to NOT have a baby crawling all over her.

Happy Birthday Audrey Lou! You're TWO!!

We were thinking of giving Audrey a party, but when remembering Haven's second birthday (see our very first blog entry ever), we decided to have a family day instead. Papa took us to Canada to a place called Castle Fun Park. Papa and Haven played mini-golf and rode go-karts, while Audrey stayed glued to a little carousel. She was literally on the thing for hours. Then we had dinner at the old spaghetti factory.

Snow week

In the previous post, you'll notice it starting to snow. This went on to become a week of snow... 6-8 inches and no school! Here are a few pics I took of it the first night it fell:

It was fun having an unexpected week of vacation. Snow paralyzes our region because we don't have the infrastructure to deal with it: no sand trucks, very few snowplows. Also our temperatures vary enough that it freezes and thaws and freezes again, making everywhere an ice slick. We keep our heater on high, drink lots of hot chocolate, and the neighborhood snowball fights last for days. We had a fire at the Myhre's, and rode the bus to town to enjoy the indoor playground.

We love snow! Especially since it only lasts a week, then early spring hits!
