Three holidays, two days, one more wet camping trip

This last weekend encompassed Haven's actual birthday, Father's Day and our 6th wedding anniversary. So what do we do to celebrate? That's right, another camping trip in the rainforest... in the rain.


Haven always likes to help set up the tent.


We had about four pinatas. Haven got the wings off of this one and they fit her perfectly, and tied her whole fairy outfit together quite nicely. (What is that in the background? A continent of carpet? You bet your sweet bippy it is.)


Of course she also got polenta of candy.


What a papa, two girls at once. There would have been a few more pictures perhaps, but there was an unfortunate accident of the camera taking a dip into the river. The camera was eventually dried out and saved, so no new camera for me!
Sidenote: I am pretty over camping for the summer, and also rain.

Haven's Birthday Party

Haven has been excited all week for her birthday party.


This morning, we were bearly up for five minutes and she already had her finger in the cake. Three huge swipes she got before I was on to her! Luckily I was able to repair the damage. She 'sprinkled' the cake herself.


Too many kids and not enough cake. Next year I'll have to make two!

Grammie's visit

After we picked Grammie up at the train station we met Uncle Casey for lunch in a pretty sweet mall. Haven rode on a tiny carousel that cost only a quarter.


Grammies are always up for book reading.


We set up a plant stand at the local (and newly formed) flea market. When few to no customers showed up we got very bored. Grammie and I decided to share a bottle of wine (or two) and the day turned out to be fun after all!

Free tickets to the Mariners Game!

I've never known anyone to win as much stuff from the radio as William Sorgen. He's always getting gift certificates and tickets to things. Seriously. On Friday he won tickets to Sunday's Mariners game, which they lost to the LA team. It was raining, thank goodness for the retractable roof!


Haven had her first ever cotton candy. She LOVED it.


Safeco field is a whole different place with the roof shut.


And it was Audrey's first major league baseball game. She startled every time the crowd cheered, which was hilarious to me. A good time was had by all.

Haven's dance recital and graduation

It was pretty comical- Haven is so used to facing the mirror in the dance studio that she continued to do so in performance, with her back to the audience. Her teacher had to go and turn her around.


She performed beautifully, and I cried. It was all I could do not to break out in sobs.



The littlest girls (Haven's group) performed first. Haven really wanted another turn to go and dance. So we let her get up and do her moves between each performance. Her improv is pretty adorable.

We love the Kroms!

We were very fortunate to have a visit from our dear friends the Kroms. They drove to the west coast from Pennsylvania, all six of them! We got to have them for two days. We took them to all our favorite local museums and the library. Somehow, thanks to an incredibly well-timed meltdown by Margaret, Jessica and I got to ditch the boys at the Electricity museum and have a nice beer alone together with only two kids in tow.


Then we had a spot of sunshine for a barbeque. Look at how high those boys go on Haven's swingset!!














Michael plays excellent tunes.


And the stomp rocket was a huge hit, as usual!

A rainy Memorial Day

We decided to make a last minute camping trip to the Olympic National Park. The thing about camping in a rain forest is that it usually rains, even if the weather report was supposed to be good. But we saw some nice water falls!
And we spent a lot of time in our tent, keeping warm and kind of dry. Audrey enjoyed her first camping trip, even though she had to spend more time in the carrier than she prefers.





We left a day early because we just couldn't take any more rain. We stopped at the Brinnon Shrimpfest for a good time. They had pony rides, bounce houses and lots of food vendors. It was a pretty fun weekend, despite the rain. Oh yeah, and Happy 37th Birthday William!!
