Worst boo boo so far

Last night Haven accidentally touched the hot fireplace, and gave herself a little burn on her ring finger. It didn't seem like a big deal at the time (it took me awhile to figure out what had happened) but because the pain wasn't cured with one kiss, it was Haven's worst boo boo 'inna whole world.'

It's official

Haven has decided what she wants to be when she grows up:
A bus driver. She will be driving to Storytime at the library, if anyone is interested.

Date night

Haven asked Papi for a date on Friday. Haven demanded he dress up too, and Papa took Haven out for a hot cocoa that night. It was all she could talk about the day of and day after.

To those who are wondering, yes, she did spill hot chocolate on her pretty dress. Thanks to papa's quick actions the dress was saved and is very little worse for wear.

Blogworthy or not?

Haven and I took the bus downtown today. As we were getting off a very angry man crossed the street near us. As he was passing he was swearing loudly. When he said the F word I was very very close to asking him to watch his mouth around my kid, but he was aggressive enough I thought better of it and kept quiet. After he yelled "F***!" Haven said loudly, "futt!" I immediately stopped us both and explained to her that that was a very angry man and little girls are not to talk that way. Haven understood the gravity of the situation and I had to assure her that it was okay, she didn't know, she's not a bad girl, she's just not to use that word. Jerks do me a favor and watch your mouths out there!!

Sarah and Heidi, also known as Heidi and Sarah

Christmas journeys

An hour before we were to leave to board the train to Michigan, Amtrak called.
Our train was canceled, and it would take some sort of a small miracle to get on another train in time for Christmas. William was determined to make it home for the holidays, and after a perusal of various flight options, we decided to rent a car and drive.
That's right, you read it correctly, we drove from Bellingham Washington to Detroit Michigan. 2763 miles, 43 hours and about nine states. And not only did we NOT kill each other, we actually had a pretty good time. Haven enjoyed watching dvd's on her new portable dvd player, and we stopped at Wall Drug in South Dakota for a little last minute Christmas shopping. We enjoyed a variety of weathers and friends and family in Michigan, then drove 35 hours back to Montana for a few days with my family. William wasn't feeling well and stayed home for New Years Eve, but I was able to spend the holiday with a dear friend from high school, Sarah.
All in all it was a pretty good holiday, but we are glad to be back home. No cars for us for AWHILE. And Sadie is exstatic at our return. Now if it would only quit snowing around here...

Christmas morning- Haven's first present

It was gloves.
