An hour before we were to leave to board the train to Michigan, Amtrak called.
Our train was canceled, and it would take some sort of a small miracle to get on another train in time for Christmas. William was determined to make it home for the holidays, and after a perusal of various flight options, we decided to rent a car and drive.
That's right, you read it correctly, we drove from Bellingham Washington to Detroit Michigan. 2763 miles, 43 hours and about nine states. And not only did we NOT kill each other, we actually had a pretty good time. Haven enjoyed watching dvd's on her new portable dvd player, and we stopped at Wall Drug in South Dakota for a little last minute Christmas shopping. We enjoyed a variety of weathers and friends and family in Michigan, then drove 35 hours back to Montana for a few days with my family. William wasn't feeling well and stayed home for New Years Eve, but I was able to spend the holiday with a dear friend from high school, Sarah.
All in all it was a pretty good holiday, but we are glad to be back home. No cars for us for AWHILE. And Sadie is exstatic at our return. Now if it would only quit snowing around here...
